My Story

Hi, I'm Tim Hubbard. This is how short-term rentals changed my life.

Not a guru story. A 15-year operating story. Properties bought, mistakes made, teams built, and a life designed around travel. Here's the honest timeline.

Tim Hubbard
2002

Caught the travel bug on a high-school trip to Spain. Started looking for a way to earn a living while seeing the world.

2007

Read Rich Dad Poor Dad and shifted toward assets that earn money without costing money. Paid for college working restaurants and hospitality.

2010

Bought a first property: a 4-plex in Sacramento, CA, and lived in one unit while the other three covered the rent.

2012

Added a duplex and a single-family home. Started staying in Airbnbs and saw where this was going.

2013

Became a commercial real estate investment broker: deal analysis, comps, markets, cycles, across $2B in transactions.

2014

Completed an MBA at UC Davis, thinking it would broaden my opportunities. It didn't.

2014

Read The 4-Hour Workweek, quit the brokerage job, bought a one-way ticket to Argentina, and went nomadic. Converted a first long-term rental to short-term, saw 4–8× the returns.

2015–16

Converted three more units. The system started to take shape.

2017

Bought an 8-unit building in Tennessee, hired a first team member, formed MidTown Stays, and moved to Colombia full-time.

2018–19

Acquired 32 more units and a first international investment in Colombia.

2021

Invested in Brazil. Launched Short Term Rental Riches — the podcast — and began teaching investors through Rest Methods.

2022

The team had grown so strong we started managing other owners' properties remotely, exactly like mine.

2024

MidTown Stays became Corzly, now running properties in 50+ cities across 8 countries.

2026

Breaking ground on a ground-up STR community development in Colombia. The next chapter.

Where I am now · 2026

Still operating. Still traveling. Still improving.

These days home base is Balneário Camboriú, Brazil, a beach town on the country's south coast. When I'm not on a tennis court (which is as often as I can manage), I'm doing the thing I still enjoy most: working with our team on improving operations, day in and day out, for hundreds of short-term rentals across the U.S. and around the world.

Same obsession that started with a single Sacramento 4-plex, just a lot more doors, a lot more team, and a lot more travel between them.
